The Bluebell Rocker — Vintage Nursing Chair, Custom Refinished in Cerulean Satin Enamel

Nursing chairs have a long and tender history. Born in the Victorian era, they were designed with a specific purpose: a low seat, no arms, and a gentle rocker base — everything a mother needed to hold, feed, and soothe a child through the quiet hours. They were functional objects made with care, and the best of them were also beautiful. This is one of those.

This vintage nursing chair came to us through a client who was moving on — passed along rather than left behind, which tells you something about the kind of piece it is. We gave it the full Adam treatment: hand-sanded, refinished in a rich cerulean satin enamel, and reupholstered in a durable cotton fabric printed with an indigo, buttercream, and sky garden print. The sculptural wave-back detail — a nod to mid-century whimsy — was preserved exactly as found. It didn't need improving.
